PÉRIGUEUX, CAPITAL of PÉRIGORD

Périgueux - Place Saint Louis - La Source (la grenouille) © William LesourdPérigueux, administrative capital of the Dordogne region, mecca of French cuisine but also city of art and history, is the pearl of Périgord. The Dordogne is the cradles of prehistory in Europe, where for nearly 300,000 years, migrating populations have found refuge.

Périgueux is the ideal springboard from which to embark on the discovery of one of the most beautiful regions of France.

The town itself is not without interest. Quite the contrary... The L'Isle river (and not, as one might think, the Dordogne river...) runs through Périgueux. It is dominated by the Saint-Front Cathedral whose Romano-like domes have become the symbol. Périgueux will enchant you with its old quarters and its cobbled streets that bear witness to its rich and tumultuous past.

Périgueux - Markets day - © William LesourdEpicureans, will find many restaurants in Périgueux (of which Le Cercle), as well as grocery stores such as L'Épicerie des Gourmets and daily markets, where jostle the scents and colors of the current season. From the stall vendors you will be able to taste and buy the delicious local foie gras, magret of duck (duck breasts), or the elusive and precious truffle of Périgord (in season).

We hope you'll enjoy our city and its surrounding countryside, and that your stay, whatever its length, remains forever etched in your memory.
